Rumors have finally come to an end and they have most recently come true. The Mortal Kombat series takes a time machine and goes back to the beginning with the 12th game in the series, aptly named Mortal Kombat 1.
NetherRealm has just held a special presentation of the new game that has been waiting for about a year, in which, along with the trailer, it was announced that the game will be released this year, on September 19, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch platforms.
In the trailer, we can see the return of fighters such as Scorpion, Mileena, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Liu Kang and others, but they look different than how we remember them in the 3-decade-long franchise.
The game promises new combat mechanics and game modes. Although most of the details are hidden, you will see many familiar characters as well as “Cameo Fighters” who will help you during the fight. The bloodshed remains intact – as the announcement trailer shows – you can expect plenty of fatalities.
Customers who pre-order the game get access to the beta in August. The $110 Digital Premium Edition offers early access to the game (September 14th), a Johnny Cage skin resembling actor Jean-Claude Van Damme, and early access to playable characters and cameo fighters when they arrive post-launch. If you’re really committed, the $250 physical Collector’s Edition includes a 16.5-inch Liu Kang statue as well as a matching in-game skin and special cover.
This reboot coincides with the end of Mortal Kombat 11 and its Aftermath expansion. However, it is also clearly positioned as an opportunity to redesign the gameplay and story.
