Guerrilla Games is one of Sony’s biggest flagships and the publisher is clearly happy with the staff. This is also noticeable in the promotions at the developer. For example, Hermen Hulst, the co-founder and Managing Director at Guerrilla, was made Head of PlayStation Studios in 2019. The Dutchman oversees all developers who fall under the ‘family’.
He will now receive help from a former colleague. Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that Angie Smets will become the Head of Development Strategy at PlayStation Studios. This is reported by VGC, among others. Since the departure of Hulst, Smets acted as studio head at Guerrilla, together with Jan-Bart van Beek and Michiel van der Leeuw.
More changes at Guerrilla
Smets is not the only head of the studio who gets a different role. Van der Leeuw has decided to take a step back and to fully focus on Guerrilla’s Decima engine. Van der Leeuw was already involved in the development of the engine, but in his own words it is ‘time to wear one hat again, instead of two’.
Van Beek will remain as head of Guerrilla Games. He will now play that role together with Joel Eschler and Hella Schmidt. Eschler was previously the Production Director at the developer and Schmidt was the General Manager.
