The second installment of Jagged Alliance is a celebrated, remembered, emulated benchmark of tactical turn-based strategies that a host of challengers have failed to even come close to, let alone surpass. And playing some of the acts that tried to do that, you couldn’t help but imagine the old gang, led by Ivan, Shadow and Scope, turning in their graves.
It is therefore clear that when Jagged Alliance 3, the sequel to a similarly heart-warming affair, is about to be released, certain concerns cannot be avoided. Especially when we’ve already had attempts like the shocking Jagged Alliance: Flashback or the not greasy Jagged Alliance: Back in Action. And Jagged Alliance: Rage! we’d rather pretend it doesn’t exist. Will the game finally live up to its name?
The shards so far don’t look bad at all. Pavel took away positive impressions from his visit to last year’s Gamescom from the stand of the Bulgarian studio Haemimont, which is working on Jagged Alliance 3, and felt that after decades of failure, the brand is finally in the right hands. The strategic layer, the tactical level, prominent, perhaps even exaggerated characters, appropriate setting, everything seems to be in its place.
An essentially important element of the gameplay, the fight itself, the creators presented and discussed in detail a few days ago in an hour and a quarter long stream. There was no disappointment, everything Jagged Alliance should be on display: Different firing positions, destructible environments, a wide arsenal of weapons with both historical and modern pieces, and a promising-looking shooting simulation that takes into account elements such as elevation, visibility, terrain, cover, skill, but also the mental state of the shooter or the situation in which he finds himself. With shrapnel in his shoulder, he’s aiming a lot worse.
Only the last piece of the puzzle was missing – the release date. That’s no longer the case, as the creators have dropped a new five-minute trailer, which you can watch above, and announced that Jagged Alliance 3 will be coming to PC on July 14th.
I would like to remind you that anyone who would like to go to the African state of Grand Chien in a slightly more opulent style can purchase a collector’s edition for around three thousand crowns, which will include, in addition to the game disc, goodies such as a tactical belt, case, soundtrack, character cards and dust even a water-resistant suitcase.
