Horizon Forbidden West received the Burning Shores DLC, a narrative sequel set after the events of the base game. Despite being well received by critics, a portion of the public did not like the expansion and promoted a “review bomb” on Metacritic.
To understand the reason for the revolt of this part of the community, you will take some spoilers, so read on at your own risk.
At the end of Burning Shores, Seyka, Aloy’s ally in the hunt for Otter, one of the Zenith who stayed on Earth after the end of the final fight in the base game, calls her for a private conversation in the place where they met. There, an optional dialogue between the two warriors can lead to a kissing scene.
In the last scenes of the expansion, Aloy must make an important choice.
This scene did not please a part of the players and Sony was heavily criticized for being “forcing the LGBT agenda” in its games. As a result, the Metacritic page became the scene of unfriendly comments.
Aware of this, Fandom, owner of the platform, issued the following statement (via Eurogamer):
Fandom is a place to belong for all fans, and we take online trust and safety very seriously on all of our sites, including Metacritic. Metacritic is aware of the abusive and disrespectful reviews of Horizon Forbidden West Burning Shores, and we have a moderation system in place to track violations of our terms of use.
Still in the message, they claim to be removing a series of reviews made by the community that were identified with abusive and disrespectful behavior.
