It was in the air, now it’s official: Warner Bros. Games has announced Mortal Kombat 1a new iteration of the Mortal Kombat franchise that has sold more than 80 million copies since its debut over 30 years ago.
Developed by NetherRealm Studios, the new chapter will represent the rebirth of the Mortal Kombat universe, created by the God of Fire Liu Kang, and will introduce a re-imagined and never-before-seen version of the iconic characters. Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for release on September 19, 2023, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

NetherRealm’s Story Mode returns in a cinematic full of unexpected changes involving the classic rivalries and personal stories of a wide range of characters, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, Johnny Cage and many others. Mortal Kombat 1 will also introduce Kameo fighters: a host of partners of the characters who will be able to assist during the matches by expanding the game possibilities.

Mortal Kombat 1 will be available for pre-order tomorrow, May 19, on all launch platforms. All Mortal Kombat 1 pre-orders will include Shang Tsung as a playable character, and those who pre-order the game for PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S will also receive access to the Mortal Kombat 1 beta, which will be available in August 2023.
