In recent weeks, NetherRealm and Warner Bros. dropped a number of hints about a fresh start for the Mortal Kombat franchise. On Thursday, everything was finally confirmed, and we got the first trailer for Mortal Kombat 1.
As the developer explains, the game takes place in a new Mortal Kombat universe created by the fire god Liu Kang. Here you can explore a completely new story, with a new twist on several well-known Mortal Kombat characters.
The figure gallery includes, among others, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana and Johnny Cage.
As for the gameplay itself, NetherRealm promises new modes and a completely new battle system. The latter has been expanded with what the developer calls Kameo Fighters – computer-controlled characters that can help players in battle.
Mortal Kombat 1 is coming to PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch on September 19. A beta will be held in August, but this will only be open to those who pre-order the game for either PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S.
