Fans of fighting games can rub their hands: not only Street Fighter 6 appears this year but also Mortal Kombat 1. Wait, Mortal Kombat… 1? Correct: Developer Netherrealm Studios initiates a reboot.
Responsible for this is the fire god Liu Kang, who makes a newly created universe available to humans – and quite promptly. According to publisher Warner Bros. Games, Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on 19. September 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X | S und Nintendo Switch.
Mortal Kombat 1: The first details about the fight game
According to the developers, the latest installment in the long-running series of games is intended to usher in a new era and promises a new combat system, new game modes, an extensive story again and, of course, less squeamish fatalities. Despite the universe freshly created by Liu Kang, Mortal Kombat 1 remains true to the series tradition and is extremely bloody.
The makers haven’t gone into too much detail yet. However, an FAQ on the game’s website states that some well-known characters are returning in a visual redesign, including Liu Kang, Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Raiden, Kung Lao, Kitana, Mileena, Shang Tsung, and Johnny Cage. Who else advances into the ranks of fighters will be revealed bit by bit in the next few weeks.
In addition, there will be Kameo Fighters, which are unique partner characters that will join you in battle. Last but not least, NetherRealm Studios says that Mortal Kombat 1, like many other genre colleagues, relies on a rollback netcode.
Three game versions and beta announced
In addition to the pure game announcement, Warner Bros. Games and NetherRealm Studios also announced that Mortal Kombat 1 will be released in September in three different versions will appear. In addition to the standard version for 70 euros, there will be a Premium and Kollector’s Edition.
The Premium Edition costs a whopping 110 euros and includes a five-day early access to the game, 1,250 Dragon Krystals (in-game currency), a skin for Johnny Cage in the style of Jean-Claude Van Damme and the Kombat Pack. This in turn grants you early access to six new characters and five cameo fighters that will be released after Mortal Kombat 1 is released.
The Kollector’s Edition, which by the way is only available for the PS5 and Xbox Series X | S, meanwhile, costs 250 euros and includes all the content of the Premium Edition. Buyers can also look forward to a 16.5-inch figure of Liu Kang, three art prints, steel box packaging, and an additional 1,450 Dragon Krystals.
Players who own any of the three versions for the PS5 or Xbox Series X | By the way, those who pre-order S are allowed to take part in a beta of the beating game in August.
