The fact that Mortal Kombat 1 is coming is not a very big surprise. There have been several rumors over the past few weeks that a new title in the franchise is on the way, including a leak from a well-known insider. And then the game was actually already ‘announced’ during a presentation of financial figures.
Now Warner Bros. and developer NetherRealm Studios officially announced Mortal Kombat 1 with a spectacular trailer. The trailer shows some familiar faces from Mortal Kombat, such as Scorpion, Sub-Zero and Kitana. Of course, the franchise is also known for very gory action and fatalities and Mortal Kombat 1 doesn’t skip those elements. So we see all the necessary blood flowing in the trailer.
Another Mortal Kombat universe
The fact that the new game suddenly starts again at one is not done just like that. Mortal Kombat 1 turns the universe upside down. According to Warner Bros. there is a ‘reborn Mortal Kombat Universe’ created by the Fire God Liu Kang. As a result, fans of the first hour will see reimagined versions of classic characters.
Fortunately, players don’t have to wait very long before they can get started with the new fighting game. The release of Mortal Kombat 1 is scheduled for September 19, 2023. The game will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC. Players who pre-order the game will get Shang Tsung as a playable character.
