The series follows Jess Valenzuela (Lisette Olivera), a young woman who searches for clues from America’s past to uncover the truth about her family and her late father. While characters like Justin Bartha and Harvey Keitel return, National Treasure: Edge of History received mixed to negative reviews from critics, which became the series’ downfall.
There were talks about a second season of National Treasure: Edge of History on Disney+, even speculating Nicolas Cage’s return. Now, however, the series has been added to the growing list of prematurely canceled series on Disney+, including Big Shot (2021), The Mighty Ducks (2021): Game Changers and The Mysterious Benedict Society.
National Treasure franchise opportunities
Although the Disney+ series National Treasure: Edge of History has been canceled, there is still hope for the franchise on the big screen. The original films have grossed more than $800 million worldwide, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer confirmed last December that National Treasure 3 is in the works. With Cage’s recent career revival, the time seems right for this much-anticipated third film, although it seems unlikely that National Treasure: Edge of History will serve as the setup for the next movie.
