Warner Bros. Pictures and DC Studios have released the new trailer for The Flash, where worlds collide as scarlet speedster Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) uses the Speed Force to travel across the DC multiverse to save his hapless parents ( Ron Livingston and Maribel Verdu).
Trapped in an alternate reality under threat from the Kryptonian supervillain General Zod (Michael Shannon), Flash recruits a ragtag team of heroes: the powerless 2013 Barry (Miller), Kryptonian Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl (Sasha Calle ), and a retired Batman (Michael Keaton), to save this world without a Justice League.
The new trailer (above) comes on the heels of Warner Bros. previewing its upcoming slate at CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Tuesday. Attendees at the annual convention for theater owners will be the first to screen The Flash in its entirety before the film opens June 16 in theaters.
On The Flash: “Barry uses his superpowers to travel through time and change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry is trapped in a reality where General Zod has returned threatening annihilation, and there are no superheroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can bring a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… even if it’s not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately to save the world he is. and return to the future he knows, Barry’s only hope is to run for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to restart the universe?
“Mostly, the emotional aspects of the story were very compelling to me. It’s obviously a superhero movie, it’s a big spectacular adventure, but what really drew me in was its emotional power.”said director Andy Muschietti during DC FanDome 2021. “There is an emotional message in the story, it is also a time travel story which is always very attractive to me. There’s something inherently compelling about time travel in general, but this one is very special because it’s such an intimate conflict.”
