the anime of Oshi no Ko wowed hundreds of thousands of viewers around the world with its first episode, a 90-minute prologue that caused a frenzy on the networks and raised Doga Kobo’s production to the top of the Internet. “Best anime ever” on portals like MyAnimeList. Behind this there were users who criticized the fact that the series “slowed down”… until arrive sixth episode.
Oshi no Ko once again gave us an exciting, raw chapter that addresses one of the most thorny and normalized issues in today’s society: the toxicity of the Internet. And all this did not come to us from Ruby or Aqua, the protagonists of the story, but from Akane, a character who had not yet had a proper introduction. Below I will cover the key points of episode 6 of the anime and explain why, for me, it is a brilliant adaptation of the manga.
Akane takes the lead in Oshi no Ko
Akane is presented to us as an introverted, serious and hard-working girl. that he wants to gain a place in the reality show, so far everything is normal✅ Things start to go wrong when we see the anger that the owner of the production company throws at the young woman’s representative, because if he does not stand out in the program it will affect them negatively and they will not earn money; she hears all this and puts enormous pressure on himself😥 Later there is a mini scene with Ruby and Kana explaining what it is the “Ego Search”a concept based on “Google your name” to see what is being said about you on the Internetand it must be highlighted because later it will be very important📲
Akane’s mental health is failing. as the TV show progresses. The girl tries to stand out in a thousand different ways until she accidentally cuts the face of the most popular girl on the show. We are before him turning point of the chapter😟
From then on Akane suffers all the anger and toxicity of the internet. His sanity breaks completely as soon as start abusing Ego Searching and he comes across thousands of humiliating comments and tweets about him😰 In addition to the work pressure, now he has to deal with a constant bombardment of hate that comes from anonymous users of the network, people who don’t know anything about your life but who won’t hesitate for a second to judge you🤕
Doga Kobo made a brilliant adaptation of the manga by accentuating much more “Akane’s fall” with saturated sound effects, many noises (representing the one that the young woman has in her head), a gloomy soundtrack and some devastating shots in which her lack of sleep and her discouragement👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Finally we have the great climax: the scene where Akane can’t take it anymore and feels the urge to end her life. to finally get some peace. we are before a very hard scene that makes you think to the viewer. The dark side of the Internet can lead a hard-working and serious person to do the most crazy things.😨😨😨
An episode everyone should watch
At the end of the sixth episode of Oshi no Ko I thought that everyone should watch it at least once. The message that Aka Akasaka wants to convey to the audience is as powerful as it is necessary. The toxicity in social networks, the culture of cancellation, hiding behind anonymity to say atrocities online… all these are real social problems that have been normalized. And because of them we could lose people like Akane, a girl who had the pure dream of becoming an actress and who almost ended up succumbing to the shadows because of the darkness of the world around her.
Let’s remember that all this pressure fell on a 17-year-old girl. Nobody prepares you to face situations like this, it is one of the great dangers of the entertainment industry and of society in general. AND That is why it is so necessary that works like Oshi no Ko exist, so that they bring the shit to light and make us stop and think about it..
