Many will say that the sinews of war are exclusives and this is not only true in video games, but also in the VOD platform sector. For once, Amazon can boast of having an excellent animation series… and quite unknown.
What is done is no longer to be done
When you know the joviality and absurdity of an animated series like BoJack Horseman, you might as well say that we weren’t expecting its thinking heads on such a mature project. Respectively creator and scriptwriter of Netflix’s wacky cartoon, Raphaël Bob-Waksberg and Kate Purdy are also behind Undone, an animation series exclusive to Prime Video. The first season is from 2019 and the second was released only last year.
The problem is that it has somewhat passed under the radar while the reviews for it are quite rave reviews. The story is that of Alma, who discovers the ability to control the weather after a car accident. She will then go explore this amazing skill (hello Life is Strange) to try to prevent the death of her father, before focusing her story on other family members in Season 2.
It’s of all beauty
If Undone made an impression, it was for the moral significance of his remarks. The theme of bereavement, social and family relations or mental health are thus fully addressed and with an accuracy noticed by the press and the public.. Undone is not a humorous series, but it uses science fiction to support its emotional plot and make its viewers think about sometimes (often?) painful life subjects.
There is another point on which Undone stands out greatly: its graphic style. Here, rotoscoping is used, a concept that consists in basing ourselves on real images to transpose them into the world of animation. The trailer above exhibits it particularly well, with an atypical result halfway between live-action and drawing.
It is also an opportunity to register the performances and faces of well-known and recognized actors: Rosa Salazar (Alita Battle Angel, The Labyrinth, Bird Box), Bob Odenkirk (Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) or even Constance Marie (American Family) are for example to be declared to the cast… and many others Again.
We can only warmly recommend that you go see Undone on Prime Video, if you haven’t already. The only downside is the uncertainty of a season 3 since Amazon has not yet commented on the subject. Let’s cross our fingers and therefore encourage this kind of project which is ultimately quite atypical.
