Take-Two Interactive has been one of the major publishers that has maintained pretty strong support for the Nintendo Switch over the years. It has frequently published a variety of titles for the platform through its publishing labels, though with the console now in the seventh year of its life cycle, it’s natural to wonder how much longer developers will be willing to keep working with its hardware. An architecture that is known for being underpowered even when the console first came out.
And with the planned Nintendo Switch port of Marvel’s Midnight Suns recently being cancelled, those questions have been raised once again. However, it seems that Take-Two Interactive has no intention of ending support for the system just yet, with plans to continue releasing games even beyond 2023.
Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz recently, when asked if the company will continue to support the Switch this late in its light, especially in the wake of Midnight Suns’ cancellation, CEO Strauss Zelnick said, “Yeah, I think we’ll continue to support it.”
Of course, it’s worth keeping in mind that, this late in its life, the Switch probably won’t have very long as an active platform. Reports have also claimed that Nintendo is working on a successor to the Switch that won’t be out until spring 2024 “at the earliest,” so third-party developers can jump on Nintendo’s next platform in the relatively near future. On the other hand, given the Switch’s huge user base, they may want to continue supporting it until its successor reaches a minimum sales threshold.
