When we talk about sales of a video game, it’s often in the millions. But we must not forget that for smaller and independent titles, selling hundreds of thousands of copies already ensures a comfortable future for their authors… and this is the case with Darkest Dungeons II.
ever darker
Between the 20.5 million of Elden Ring or the ten million of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom in just three days (!), without forgetting the eleven million of God of War Ragnarok at the start of the year, the statistics video games can often make you dizzy. But be careful nonetheless, we are talking about the commercial elite and for many, succeeding in finding hundreds of thousands of takers is already a success.
Take Red Hook Studios, for example. An independent development firm based in Vancouver, it became known for its Darkest Dungeon, the second of which ended Early Access on the Epic Games Store and was recently released on Steam.
It’s a dungeon-crawling rogue-lite in the turn-based RPG genre, sometimes leading to enemies through decisions, sometimes loot. All in an artistic style close to drawing and an HP Lovecraft atmosphere! A very good game that we had rated 16/20… and which has just taken an important step in its trajectory.
Legendary Loot
It has not been long since Darkest Dungeon II is available in version 1.0, but it is already a hit. The developers took to Twitter to let the community know: 230,000 sales are to be declared this week of launch alone and above all, 500 copies have already been sold in total, including those of early access.
Thank you for making Darkest Dungeon II’s 1st week of 1.0 an incredible journey!
We’re proud to welcome over 230k new players so far, which brings us to over 500k copies sold, including early access.
We have a lot planned for the future-thanks for joining us on this expedition! pic.twitter.com/faTrMCz8eD

Half a million is not nothing in such a short time for a small studio and if you are a fan of the genre, we therefore advise you to take a look at our review at this address. Here is an excerpt:
This Lovecraftian road trip takes you to the guts whether it’s during the strategic fights that end in sweat and blood, in the introspection of the heroes or in the exploration of dreadful places. Darkest Dungeon II made the risky bet of not being content with being an improved version of the first opus. Although we may regret some changes, we must still note that the game has found its identity. (…) Intended especially for experienced players, this title will delight those who have a taste for optimization and effort.
Besides, the video game has not yet completed its course since it must also be offered on home consoles. In the meantime, he is €38.99 on Steam.
