In order to validate the takeover of Activision-Blizzard, Microsoft is going all out with very interesting promises for players: many games from the publisher would be playable in cloud gaming everywhere, including titles like World of Warcraft… which would also change its economic model a little.
Promises
We know: very recently, the European Commission gave the green light for the takeover of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft. It must be said that the latter did everything to seduce the organization: if the British CMA considered that the place of the American giant would be too predominant in cloud gaming, the promises of the Redmond firm on this subject have visibly seduced the European Union.
And for good reason: Microsoft has unveiled a very interesting plan. If redemption there isall Activision-Blizzard games sold on consoles and PC will be made available on partner cloud gaming platforms for ten years : we count the Xbox Game Pass of course, but also Nvidia GeForce Now or Boosteroid.
One subscription for another
So if you bought a game from the publisher – let’s say, a Call of Duty or a Crash Bandicoot – you can therefore play it in streaming via the cloud gaming platforms mentioned above. It will also work for free-to-play gaming services like Game Pass, which should include World of Warcraft if the buyout does go through.
In this way, you will obviously no longer have to pay your monthly subscription to Blizzard’s iconic MMO, but simply enjoy it in cloud gaming via your subscriptionwhich should be a game changer for many players.
For their part, cloud gaming platforms like Nvidia GeForce Now, Boosteroid or Nware can consider themselves lucky: not having to pay for licenses for their customers to benefit from such massive titles within their service (for ten years, we remind you) is a real godsend.
It is precisely these promises from Microsoft that convinced the European Commission to validate the acquisition of Activision-Blizzard. Acquisition which must still receive the approval of the other world states, moreover.
