The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was released a few days ago and should easily conquer the sales charts. But does Zelda have that too Potential for a film hit? A question producer Aonuma would like to know answered.
Super Mario, arguably Nintendo’s greatest and most recognizable mascot, has only just proven that he’s a big screen lord. meanwhile is the Super Mario Bros. film is the highest-grossing video game adaptation, which has existed so far, and Nintendo and the responsible film studio Illumination Entertainment should have been considering how to proceed for a long time. In addition to a second Mario film, The Legend of Zelda could also be on the agenda.
Zelda as a movie? Fans have to do some convincing
Whether Link and Princess Zelda will ever grace the cinemas of this world remains to be seen. If The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma and Tears of the Kingdom director Hidemaro Fujibayashi have their way, a Zelda movie would be very interesting. In an interview with Polyon, the two revealed that they would have no objections to a film adaptation.
“I have to say I’m interested. Absolutely. But it’s not just my interest in something that gets things going, unfortunately,” said Aonuma. Fujibayashi agrees, pointing out that the fans can make the difference. “Maybe the voice of the fans is what counts here.”
So if Aonuma and Fujibayashi have their way, fans should support a Zelda movie publicly if they want it. Whether this is really necessary, however, remains to be seen: After all, Nintendo should already be able to estimate very well how popular the Zelda brand is and whether it can be conjured up on the cinema screen in the appropriate quality.
