To say The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom was expected is an understatement. We could therefore quite naturally expect an explosive launch. But the sales figures just released exceeded all expectations.
The Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom, le messi tant attendu ?
After more than six years of waiting, players have finally been able to get their hands on the sequel to the acclaimed The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. And the least we can say is that the game has had its small effect, especially on the side of the press. At home, the game took 19/20. If it’s less than Breath of the Wild, it’s only because the game is not intended to shake up open-world dogmas as the latter did. Because otherwise “The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a new masterpiece that makes Breath of the Wild, one of the best games of all time, look like a draft.” And overall, everyone tends to agree with this opinion. So much so that the game has climbed to the top of the ranking of the highest rated titles on Open Critic (alongside Super Mario Odyssey).
So certainly, currently, the debates are going well on the quality of the title, in particular on the technical side. But there is one fact that is undeniable: Tears of the Kingdom is already a great game, maybe even the future game of the year. And that, of course, is reflected in sales. In the United Kingdom, Tears of the Kingdom recorded the best launch weekend of 2023. In France, almost half a million copies were sold over this weekend alone, exceeding thus FIFA 23 and its 420,000 copies sold during the launch weekend. In the news reporting these figures, we wondered what new record Tears of the Kingdom was going to be able to break. Well, here we are!
Within three days, The Legend of #Zelda: #TearsOfTheKingdom sold over 10 million copies worldwide, marking the best start in the series’ history.

The Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom bientôt devant Hogwarts Legacy ?
Things are moving very quickly. Less than 24 hours after the publication of the news quoted just above, a new record has been broken! At least that’s what Nintendo announced on Twitter by revealing more global figures. And the least we can say is that it’s impressive. In just three days, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sold over 10 million copies. It’s definitely the best launch of the year, and even the best launch in the history of the Zelda license. Even the famous Breath of the Wild therefore failed to do better.
Tears of the Kingdom therefore begins on a very good momentum. If it continues like this, it could even become the best-selling game of 2023. Indeed, at this rate, it will not take him very long to overtake Hogwarts Legacy: Hogwarts Legacy and its 15 million sales (figures announced on the day of the game’s release on PS4 and Xbox One and not counting copies purchased since). This would be a major feat knowing that Tears of the Kingdom is a Nintendo Switch exclusive, while Hogwarts Legacy will be available next November on five different platforms. To be continued…
