The launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on Switch has been a complete success on a commercial level: the latest installment in the Nintendo saga achieved 10 million sales worldwide, becoming the fastest-selling Nintendo title for any console in Europe, and it is also the game for Fastest selling Nintendo Switch in the same region, as well as the fastest selling Zelda game worldwide.
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom sells 1.1 million in its Japanese debut
Now the latest weekly sales report in Japan shared today by Famitsu certifies that the debut of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has also been a success in that market: in just three days, Link’s new game sold more than 1.1 million physical units in Japan. To this we must add digital sales, although it is a fact that Nintendo does not usually share. Curiously, during the week of May 8 to 14, there was a rebound in sales of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wildwhich with more than 7,000 new copies sold was placed in the third best-seller position of the week.
As for consoles, Switch OLED was the best seller of the week, leading the total number of units sold by Switch in this period (83,052 new consoles). The second best-selling family was PS5 with 41,444 units, followed by PS4 with 787 units and Xbox Series X/S with 275 units.
