The development of Dead Island 2 has not exactly been smooth sailing. The first trailer was already shown in 2014, but the game only came out last Friday. Development has gone to different developers over the years, until Dambusters took over the project in 2019 and started from scratch.
That fresh look and a new pair of hands has done Dead Island 2 a lot of good. For example, the game received a well-deserved 8.5 in our review, thanks to the anatomically constructed zombies, a large amount of content and weapons and the space for exploration. Many players are also convinced. Dambusters and publisher Deep Silver have announced that Dead Island 2 has already sold one million copies in three days.
Lots of dead zombies in Dead Island 2
In addition to the sales figures, the publisher and developers have also shared some interesting figures. For example, 11 million hours have already been put into the game, which is a remarkably high number with an average of 11 hours per player over three days. During the adventure in HELL-A, players have already died 28 million times.
The zombies fare even worse. For example, 45 million zombies have been split in two, no less than 756 million limbs have been chopped off and a total of 1.1 billion zombies have been slaughtered.
